CALENDAR
MYTHS & REALITY'S

Myth: Saturday makeup days could be scheduled several weeks in advance.
REALITY: We do not hold school six days in one week, so it’s necessary to use the Saturday in the
week that the school day was missed.

Myth: Holding makeup days on Saturdays hurts attendance more than other makeup days.
REALITY: Attendance rates are less than normal on all makeup days. (The exception was for days that were added at the end of the year, which, for the most part, no longer possible due to the June 10 deadline.

Myth: After a school system misses X days, the days
don't have to be made up.

REALITY: Reality The State School Board no longer grants waivers for days of school missed.  180 means 180.

Myth: If your area is declared a Federal Disaster Area, you don't have to make up days missed from school.
REALITY: The Federal government holds no authority over a school system's calendar. Those
decisions are made by the individual states.
